The Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, which began its educational activities in the 2010–2011 academic year, aims to research, preserve, and sustain the continuity of traditional cultural elements and artistic practices rooted in the thousands of years of Turkish cultural heritage. The department is dedicated to preserving, revitalizing, and transmitting to future generations various forms of traditional Turkish arts, such as carpets, kilims, textiles, tiles, ceramics, illumination (tezhip), miniature painting, and calligraphy, all of which represent significant cultural artifacts. By employing scientific methods, the program seeks to ensure the conservation and continuity of these art forms. Students are encouraged to develop design approaches inspired by historical traditions while also producing contemporary interpretations based on field research and supported by modern technologies. Graduates of the department may work as designers, art consultants, or textile designers in both public and private institutions.
