Faculty Introduction

Akdeniz University Faculty of Fine Arts, which began its educational activities in 1999 with the Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, and Ceramics departments, has continued to expand its vision by increasing the number of active departments with the inclusion of the Photography Department in 2000-2001, the Cinema-TV and Music departments in 2002-2003, the Basic Education Department in 2006-2007, the Traditional Turkish Arts Department in 2010-2011, and the Textile and Fashion Design Department in 2017-2018.

Since its establishment in 1999, Akdeniz University Faculty of Fine Arts has continued to train well-equipped individuals who are familiar with the social, cultural, and artistic dynamics existing in the world and in Turkey, and who contribute to these dynamics through art. Our faculty aims to train artists who are proficient in art theory and practice, possess critical and analytical thinking, are aware of the current dynamics of art and science in the world and in Turkey, and have the ability to apply these dynamics in their original productions.

Our faculty offers education in nine departments: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Ceramics, Photography, Cinema-TV, Music, Traditional Turkish Arts, and Textile and Fashion Design. The Basic Education Department conducts art history and theory courses open to all departments. Furthermore, the Departments of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage and Stage Design and Costume Design aim to complete their academic structuring and begin accepting students in the coming years.

Our faculty encourages and supports the active participation of students and academics in programs such as Mevlana, Farabi, Erasmus, and Erasmus+, which contribute to our national and international artistic and academic institutional representation. We also have a faculty journal, Akdeniz Sanat, published since 2007, which is indexed by international databases such as TrDizin (from the July 2021 issue) and EBSCOHost (from the January 2020 issue), contributing to the publication of artistic and scientific research and academic works.
